Wayne Smith back PA Wellington

A former All Black rugby first five-eighths, Wayne Smith, returns to one of his happy hunting grounds when he plays for Canterbury B against Wellington B at Athletic Park today. It was Smith who ripped open the defence to score the try that lifted the Ranfurly Shield from Wellington on Athletic Park in 1982, and he had other memorable moments at. the same venue in a distinguished first-class career. Smith played for Canterbury A at Athletic Park earlier this year in the South Pacific Championship series. Today's Canterbury B team is strong, with Richard Connell, Steve Hansen, Dallas Seymour and Brent Harvey among a solidlooking pack, which includes the locks, Tom Coughlan and Mark McAtamney, sons of former All Blacks Tom and Frank respectively.
