Mining
Sir,—l am a concerned young New Zealander who is keenly interested in tramping, conservation and preservation of the natural environment and its inhabitants. I was'alarmed to learn of plans to mine the Paparoa region of the West Coast. This is an extremely rare and valuable part of New Zealand’s native bush, containing many endangered species of flora and fauna, including kahikatea and rimu. I strongly urge the Government, local bodies and the public to lobby to protect this area for the sake of all New Zealanders, young and old, and the generations yet to come.—Yours, etc.,
JANE GRAY. August 5, 1989.
