Citizens’ ticket has experience
Five of the six United Citizens candidates to fight the Canterbury Area Health Board elections in the two Christchurch wards have served on the board or its predecessor. The candidates are Mrs Caroline Cartwright, Mr Wilfred Colley and Dr Jocelyn Hay (Fitzgerald ward) and Mrs Honor Bonisch, Mr Bill Utley and Mrs Grace Hollander (Godley ward). Mrs Cartwright is a member of the Area Health Board and former
Canterbury Hospital Board, a committee chairman for psychiatric and geriatric services, and a member of the Nurse Maude Board with responsibility for district nursing. She is the coordinator for support and volunteer services with the Cancer Society. Mr Colley was a member of the Canterbury Hospital Board from 1983 to 1986. He is an optometrist in his own practice. He is also chairman of the Christchurch Theatre
Trust. Dr Hay is a member of the health board and of the hospital board since 1983. She has been a member of the health services and policy committees and is a part-time medical practitioner for the Student Health Service. Mrs Honor Bonisch is also a candidate for the Christchurch City Council. She has been active in local body politics on the Christchurch Transport Board and the Canterbury
Hospital Board. Mr Bill Utley is a surgeon who has been a longstanding member of the Canterbury Hospital Board and is on the health board. Mrs Hollander is an office administrator who has held positions in the National Council of Women, the Canterbury Regional Planning Authority, the Standards Council, the Consumer Council board, and the Ethnic Council.
