N.Z. bubbly ‘feted’
NZPA London For the first time New Zealand bubbly was used to toast the bride and groom at a British wedding reception this week-end.
Although Lindauer Brut, the New Zealand premium methode champenoise, has won 29 awards since its introduction, it is not yet on sale in Europe.
But four cases were shipped 12,000 miles for the wedding on Saturday, in Bognor Regis, West Sussex.
The wine was sent for the New Zealander, Kathy McQuaid, at the special request of her mother, Flo Wilson, of Wellington.
Montana Wines also arranged for five cases of its Rhine Riesling and two cases of Cabernet Sauvignon to be delivered to accompany the meal at Kathy’s reception.
Mrs Wilson wanted to make the reception an all-Kiwi-wine occasion, and asked Montana if they would ship the champenoise over as a special favour.
“I am absolutely thrilled that we can actually have New Zealand bubbly for the reception,” she said before the wedding on Sataurday. “I honestly think that New Zealand wines are highly comparable to some of the best wines in Europe.”
Ms McQuaid met her British husband, Bob Simmonds, while on a working holiday in Britain.
