Fewer defended cases
The police will reduce the number of defendedhearing cases they attend early next year, so that staff will be available during the Commonwealth Games and the Waitangi Treaty commemoration. The police’s chief legal adviser, Mr Neville Trendle, said he had told the judiciary and the Justice Department that the police would prefer fewer defended cases for two to three weeks from January 23, when the Games begin, to February 7, the day after Waitangi Day.—PA
