Jessup leaves employers post
PA Wellington The New Zealand Employers’ Federation’s directorgeneral Mr Dick Jessup, says he felt “a little inadequate” for the job, and will resign at the end of the month, after 18 months services. His resignation was announced yesterday by the federation president, Mr Ron Arbuckle. Mr Jessup, a former insurance actuary and insurance company consultant, said the job had been demanding and he felt he could not live up to the demands. ; “I felt a little inadequate in the job in recent times. It wasn’t working out that well for me.” Mr Jessup was a surprise appointment to the job 18 months ago after the retirement of Mr Jim Rowe. Mr Jessup said he would resume practice as a consulting actuary. Speculation now centres on Mr Jessup’s replacement, with the deputy director-general and director of advocacy, Mr Steve Marshall, being tipped by many as the replacement. When Mr Jessup was appointed director-general, Mr Marshall was appointed deputy director-general, a new position. Mr Arbuckle could not be reached yesterday, but in a statement he said employers were grateful for the efforts Mr Jessup had made on behalf of the business community. His resignation had been accepted with regret and the parting was amicable.
