Students’ status can be stretched

PA Auckland Stretch limousines are the latest fad among high school students out to impress their peers. It is no longer enough to buy a corsage for your girlfriend or pay to have your hair done to be in fashion for the school ball. Schoolchildren anxious to impress at the social event of the year are turning to stretch limousines to add that touch of glamour, and limousine hire companies say business is booming. The owner of Brookes Limousines, Mr Richard Brookes, said three times as many people as last year wanted to rent cars. “The fad is here and it’s' here to stay,” he said. “They carry six people at a time at a fraction more than the cost of a taxi a head.” A trip from the Auckland suburbs to the city’s central ball venues cost about $l6 a student. Mr Brookes said that, as well as the fun of friends travelling in style together, the safety of the heavy Ford and Cadillac cars was an attraction.
