PA Wellington The New Zealand dollar closed five points off its high at U558.20/30C yesterday after a quiet, directionless day. The kiwi opened at U557.95/05C off its closing level last week of U 558.01/ 11c. On the cross rates, the kiwi was lower at Aust77.39c, 1.0905 Deutsche marks, 35.12 pence, 80.535 yen and higher at 0.9383 Swiss francs. The trade weighted index was 59.8 at 3 p.m. The Australian currency closed at U575.23/30 in Sydney, climbing from Friday’s U574.85/93C finish and a 74.80/87C opening. Against other currencies, it finished firmer at 45.35/41p from 45.18/25p previously, at 1.4091/4109 Dm from 1.4055/ 70, 5NZ1.2908/43 from $NZ1.2825/59 and 1.2117/36 Swiss francs from 1.2101/20. It eased to 103.85/98 yen.
