Apple’s sales soar in N.Z.

For the third quarter ending June, 1989, Apple Computer in New Zealand has reported a 58 per cent increase in sales revenue on the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

Mr Mai Thompson, the managing director of CED, the New Zealand distributor for Apple Computer said the recently introduced Macintosh SE3O and Macintosh Ilex, as expected, had dramatically boosted

sales. Internationally Apple Computer reported net revenues rose 26 p.c. for its third fiscal quarter ended June, 30, 1989, compared to the same quarter a year ago. Net sales

for the quarter were $1,248 billion, compared to sales of $993.1 million in the year-ago period. Net income for the quarter was $96.1 million, compared with $91.3M earned in the corresponding period a year

ago. “The year-over-year revenue growth for the third quarter reflects the strong momentum around the world for our two newest Macintosh personal computers — the Macintosh Ilex and the Maintosh SE/30,” said Mr John Sculley, Apple’s chairman and chief executive officer. He is confident that in the 1989 financial year Apple’s sales will top $5 billion.
