Thailand big draw
PA Wellington New Zealanders are flocking to Thailand for their holidays, according to Thai Airways figures. Last year 23,789 New Zealanders visited Thailand, a 77 per cent increase over the previous year, the airline says. The number continued to rise during the first three months of this year when there was a 53 per cent increase over the same period last year. The average length of stay for holidaying New Zealanders has also risen, from 9.2 days in 1987 to 10.08 days last year. A Thomas Cook travel agency spokeswoman attributed the increase to more publicity and the airline’s launching of direct flights between Thailand and New Zea-larijp-18 months ago.
