Integration of road services

in Wellington An establishment board has been appointed to prepare for Transit New Zealand, which will assume the functions of the National Roads Board and the Urban Transport Council. For the first time there would be integration of national planning and funding of roads, passenger transport services and road safety, said the Minister of Transport, Mr Jeffries. Creation of the new authority was included in legislation now being considered by a Parliament select committee. Mr Jeffries said the board’s
chairman would be Mr lan McCutcheon, of Wellington, the chairman of the Urban Transport Council, a former Wellington Town Clerk and recently a Local Government Commissioner. The six other members will be.— Ms Janice Wright, of Christchurch, a research officer at the Centre for Resource Management, University of Canterbury and Lincoln College; Mrs Wyn Headley, of Auckland, the Mayor of Takapuna City and an executive member of the Local Government Association; Mr Frank Parkinson, of
Palmerston North, an accountant, a former president of the Automobile Association and the deputy chairman of the National Roads Board; Mr lan Farrant, of Dunedin, an accountant, a director of Forest Corp and New Zealand Post and former chairman of the Shipping Corporation; Mr Doug Ritchie, of Wellington, an engineer, a director of ElectriCorp and the A.M.P. society, and; Mr John Cameron, of Wellington, a contractor and transport operator, a member of the National Roads Board and chairman of Works Corp.
