Heavy frosts chill Hanmer

Hanmer Springs is experiencing its hardest series of frosts in about 13 years, according to its long-serving policeman, Senior Constable Peter Gilfedder. Records kept by Timberlands confirm that the township is going through a chilly spell. Readings taken at 9 a.m. on Thursday and yesterday showed 11 deg. of frost. The forestry manager for Timberlands at Hanmer Springs, Mr Murphy Ihe, said that overnight air temperatures had been dropping as low as —Bdeg. “I have been talking to a few locals. This is the worst they have seen for a long, long time.” f-.
