Chch teams make finals

The defending champions, Pioneer from Christchurch are both through to the men’s and women’s finals of the national volleyball championships in Auckland today. Pioneer men will meet Sparta from Auckland in the men’s final and the women will play Akarana of Auckland. The women reached their final at the expense of another Christchurch

team, Smash. Pioneer won that semi-final 15-10, 1511, 15-10. Akarana looked just as impressive as Pioneer in its semi-final against Porirua, winning 15-12, 15-7, 15-3. The Pioneer men showed no mercy to Vikings of Dunedin in their semi-final, the Christchurch side whipping through the match 15-3, 15-6, 15-3. Sparta beat another Christchurch team, Shirley, in its semi-final

also in three straight sets, 15-10, 15-8, 15-5.
