Hospital Board Appointments Wellington Area Health Board CHIEF NURSING ADVISOR An area health board has been formed for the Greater Wellington Region. A Chief Nursing Advisor is being sought for the exciting challenges of guiding the development of nursing in this new organisation. The prime focus will be to provide an efficient and accountable health service that is responsive and accessible to the communities of the area. We are seeking a senior nurse executive who will be the professional head of nursing services and nursing education and who can play an important part in the formation of health policy. The Chief Nursing Advisor will report to the General Manager and will be a member of the Corporate Management Group. REQUIREMENTS • A record of effective leadership of a large professional nursing staff • Demonstrated results in senior nursing management • A wide knowledge of and skills in nursing systems and practices • Successful participation in senior multi-disciplinary teams • Tertiary qualifications in nursing, health and management. In addition to the former Hawke’s Bay and Central Hawke’s Bay Hospital Board, the new Board encompasses the Napier Health Development Unit. The Board will serve 140,000 people, employ approximately 2000 full-time staff and have an operating budget of $lOO million. The General Manager will be responsible to the Board for the efficient, effective and economical management of the Board, including its statutory obligations and for ensuring the achievement of short and long term objectives determined by the Board. Particular emphasis will be placed on the provision of quality services in an environment of cost containment. The person sought will have a proven record of managerial excellence at the highest level, preferably in the health sector, and will possess a relevant tertiary qualification. The capacity to lead a highly complex multi-disciplinary organisation and to manage change is essential. . The appointee will be responsible for the provision of an Occupational Therapy service at Dargaville Hosspital and for the day-to-day running of the department.
