Canterbury Regional Council Senior Appointments The Canterbury Regional Council is being formed from the existing United Councils, Catchment Boards, Harbour Boards and Special Purpose Authorities. It will cover an area of 40,4005 q. kilometres and serve a population base of 433,000. Its primary purpose is to manage the resources of the region to yield balanced and sustainable benefits to meet the environmental, economic and social needs of present and future generations. It will have a performance orientated management style. Finance Manager This new position emphasises the greater importance being placed on financial planning, management and accountability, especially cashflow management and financial control of major capital works. This position calls for a highly professional approach from a candidate who has previously demonstrated considerable abilities in financial management. It is expected that the successful applicant will have completed a B. Com or ACA qualification and will have the determination to make an immediate contribution to the Corporate Services team. Regional Transport Planner This position reports to the Manager Transport and has responsibility for the development and dissemination of regional transport policies. The appointee will be a member of a Council wide policy unit and provide input into a broad range of corporate and technical policy matters. The successful applicant will also oversee the Council’s transport modelling and transport data management. Strong interpersonal skills, together with the ability to lead a small but highly technical team, are essential. The minimum qualification would be five or more years of experience in transport planning. Transport Investigations Officer The above position reports to the Regional Transport Planner and has prime responsibility for the Council’s transportation models and their development. A major review of the Christchurch model will commence during 1990 and the successful applicant will be responsible for directing this review. A degree in Planning, Computer Science or similar, combined with at least three years experience in transportation planning, is required. Recent experience in the use of transportation planning models would be an advantage.
