Turkey tale

Johnson’s Bird. by Alexander Fullerton. Macmillan, 1989. 318 pp. $34.95. Fullerton has written nearly 30 seafaring adventure stories. Now he has produced a new hero — Matt Johnson, charter yacht skipper and former Royal Marine, who plays knight errant to an old friend, and to a damsel in distress, off the southern coast of Turkey. The plot entertains, blit the characters and dialogue are wooden, stilted things. There is little here to justify the publisher’s claiip that “yachting has an equivalent to Dick Francis.”
