Jean-Luc Godard collection to be shown

A festival of the films of Jean-Luc Godard will be held by the Canterbury Film Society from today until Sunday. The films are: “Breathless” (“A Bout De Souffle”), today, 7.30 p.m., Arts Centre Clock Tower theatrette: Go-

dard’s first feature. A witty, romantic, innovative chase picture with John-Paul Belmondo as a Parisian hood and Jean Seberg as the American girl who casually lives with him and just as casually turns him in to the police.

“Masculine Feminine,” tomorrow, 7.30 p.m., Arts Centre: Breaking every rule — mixing genres and styles, interrupting his narrative for witty digressions on sex and politics — Godards’s restlessly inventive mind works with affectionate irony in this modern love story.

“Tout Va Bien,” Sunday, 5.30 p.m. Arts Centre: The story of a radio journalist and a former new-wave filmmaker who are accidentally trapped in the middle of a riotous factory strike. This experience leads them to question their ideals.

“Week-end,” Sunday, 7.30 p.m., Arts Centre and Monday, 7.30 p.m. Sociology Theatrette, Canterbury University, Ham: A sensation on its initial release, "Week-end” retains the power to shock with its vision of a society completely out of control.
