Tom Jones continues to deny child is his
NZPA-Reuter London The Welsh singer, Tom Jones, has appeared on stage in Las Vegas still denying a 12-month-old boy is his son. A spokesman said his fight against a paternity suit by the child’s mother was not over, in spite of an American judge ruling he was the father. The star was ordered to pay Katherine Berkey, aged 26, £2OO a month ($570) to care for baby Jonathan until the hearing resumes in September. He could then be ordered to pay her £2OOO a month ($5714). Jones, who is married with a grownup son, has so far refused to appear at New York’s
Manhattan Family Court but has been represented by lawyers. Judge Judith Scheidlin is reported to have ruled that blood tests showed 99.67 per cent probability the singer was the youngster’s father. Jones’s security officer, Chris Montgomery, said “Our position has not changed. The case has not been summed up. “For us to say anything else at this stage would jeopardise the hearing in September.” Asked if Jones, aged 48, would be appearing in court at the next hearing, he said: “That is up to the court.”
