Barley price at $250

Farmlands Grain has announced a fixed price contract for export malting barley of $250 a tonne, believed to be the highest fixed price ever offered to New Zealand export barley growers. The managing director of Farmlands, Mr Murray Gilbert, said the contract price might not

necessarily be either the best or the worst price realised on the export market next year. “But we know it is a very good price and it will give arable farmers a confidence boost for the coming season, particularly those in areas where contracting options are restricted.”

The terms of the contract are similar to those offered by Farmlands last season when the price was $2OO a tonne. The barley must be of the Triumph variety, of export quality and delivered to the grower’s nearest or nominated port.
