Hotel wins case over bill

PA Wellington The James Cook Hotel has won a case to get full payment from the Stevie Wonder concert party. The party stayed in the Wellington hotel on November 11 and 12, 1987, and ran up a bill of $12,922. CANX Corporate Services, Ltd, formerly

known as N.Z. Concert Tours, Ltd, who arranged the accommodation, paid $969.16 and later $3346.85. The company said the second cheque was a 28 per cent final payment. The hotel did not accept that full and final payment had been made and sued. At the High Court in

Wellington Mr Justice Greig agreed that the hotel’s acceptance of the second cheque did not prevent it from claiming the balance. He gave the James Cook Hotel judgment for $8606.19, as well as interest at 11 per cent from December 20, 1987, and $B4O costs.
