Show gets police approval

PA Wellington The Police Association secretary, Mr Graham Harding, has welcomed news that Television New Zealand has commissioned another 13part series of the New Zealand police drama, “Shark in the Park. ” Mr Harding says the first series of the show screened earlier this year, was very popular with police. “I think a lot of police will be happy it will be coming back for a second series. It was a programme they identified with.” Mr Harding says weekly events in the series, set in Wellington, became regular talking points in police stations. “Some of the watchhouse scenes were spot on. They used a lot of research to make it realistic.” The programme is made by the Gibson Group based in Wellington. The second series will screen in mid-1990. TVNZ has signed a deal with the Wellington independent filmmaker for first right of refusal for at least eight hours drama a year for the next five years. In return TVNZ will help fund productions. Projects planned for 1990 include the new series of “Shark in the P-ark” and a television movie, “Undercover.” Combined, these will nearly double this minimum.
