Floods toll over 1700

NZPA-AP Peking A week of torrential rains and flooding has left 122 people dead in coastal Zhejiang province and 75 dead in north China’s Hebei province, official reports said. The newest figures add to the summer’s mounting death toll, now more than 1700, from flooding in at least 14 provinces throughout the country. In Zhejiang, hit by typhoon Hope late last week, 901 people were injured and 21 were missing as heavy rains fell throughout the province, the official Xinhua News Agency said. It said the province has suffered direct losses of 1.05 billion yuan (SNZSOB million).
