Future bright for Limbs dancers

By

ANABRIGHT HAY

The title of the Limbs Dance Company’s present tour, “Great Leap Forward,” is a reflection of the company’s confidence, the artisitic director, Ms Catherine Cardiff, says. Well-publicised management and financial problems which dogged the company for several years had now been sorted out, she said. Restructed, debt free, and steered by a new board of directors, the company’s future looked bright. “We are in a positive space and the title was natural and good and suggested a feeling of movement.” Four New Zealand and Australian choreographers, Kai Tai Chan, Sue Healey, Mary-Jane O’Reilly and Brian Carbee, have created the tour programme pieces. Ms Cardiff says Limbs is committed to presenting dance which anybody can enjoy. A lot of care had been taken to balance the pieces in the programme, she said. The company was excited to be in Christchurch, the second venue of the tour. Audiences here were traditionally supportive and keen dance lovers. Limbs will dance at the James Hay Theatre today and tomorrow.
