Frosts hold back flowers

Most spring flowers have been held back by heavy frosts this week and the high costs of heating crops in large commercial tunnel houses.

To help to supplement this, good supplies of North Island flowers, such as erlicheer, irises, and standard and miniature orchids were available this week.

Erica, leucodendron, lophomeurtus, and proteas are also being supplied from the North Island. One of the more popular was blushing bride protea, available for the first time yesterday for up to $4.50 a bunch. Dried flowers are still plentiful.
