Professor of public policy

PA Wellington Students at Victoria University will be able to major in public policy because of the appointment of Dr Claudia Scott as professor of public policy.

Professor Scott has been director of the university’s master of public policy programme, a course mainly for public servants developing strategic policy-making and management skills. The university’s vicechancellor, Professor Leslie Holborow, said her appointment meant students could major in public policy from 1991.

Professor Scott holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mt Holyoke College, Massachusetts, and completed her master’s and doctoral degrees at Duke University in North Carolina.

After a research career in the United States, she took up a position at Auckland University in 1973 and joined Victoria University in 1981. She has just participated in a ministerial review of health research. Its report, “Research for Health,” was published two weeks ago.
