School trustee fees extended

PA Wellington Student and proprietors’ representatives on school boards of trustees will be paid the $55 a meeting that other trustees receive, the Minister of Education, Mr Lange, said yesterday. In January the Government approved a fee of $55 a meeting for 10 members, for up to 10 meetings a year, to all elected, appointed or coopted trustees except students, principals and the two proprietors’ representatives in integrated schools. The chairman was to receive an extra $l5. The move was made possible by delaying the payment of the fee to coopted members until June 1, making sufficient savings in this year’s education budget from July 1 to November.

"From February 1, all school trustees, again with the exception of the principal, will be paid from the operations budget,” Mr Lange said.
