Trackwork

Hastings

Hastings correspondent The two-year-old, Shan’s Rullah, was one of the most impressive at Tuesday’s Hastings track session, cutting out a smart 800 metres on the No. 1 grass. The Dedicated Rullah colt went a fair race for eighth in his debut at Hastings earlier this season and looks to have progressed since.

Fast work was carried out on the plough (soft) and wide out on the No. I grass (easy). Shan’s Rullah (Hall) finished clear of Fiesta Rose (Ackland) at the end of 800 metres on the grass in 53.15, the last 600 in 38.65. Decker (Panapa) and Bakora (Ack-

land) also appeared to be working well at the end of 1000 metres on the plough in Im'3.2s, the last 600 in 38.15. Decker ran a good second at the recent Waipukurau trials and shows potential. The northern jockey, Bruce Compton, was at the training session, and rode several of Trevor Whittington’s horses in work. Going (Compton) worked with Omakere Star (Tonge) over an easy 800 metres in 55.95, the last 600 m in 40s, Going looks well. Mr Mickey (Murray) was not hurried when running a solo 800 m on the plough in 52.45, the last 600 in 39.35. He shows promise for trainer Alan Cole. Manor Hall (Compton) was

always clear of Back Bencher (Tonge) at the end of 800 metres on the grass in 535, the last 600 in 395. Manor Hall was an impressive trials winner at Waipukurau and should not be long in clearing maidens. Big Bread (Treweek) schooled well over 10 batten fences and then ran en easy 600 metres. He should go well in the hurdle race at the Hawke’s BayDannevirke Hunt meeting. Robert Brydon (Williams) and Western Lord (Winiata) schooled over eight batten fences with Western Lord nearly unseating his rider at the fifth fence. Crownley (Williams) jumped eight batten fences on his own and made a good job of it.

Unewa Lad (Phillips) ran home the last 600 metres of his work in 38.2 s while Debutante (Compton) took 58.6 s for an easy 800 metres. Coppins (Howard) was stretching out well at the end of 800 metres on the plough, the last 600 taking 38.7 s while Perry Trejay (Meenehan) and Sunshine Lad (Compton) ran 800 metres in 535, the last 600 in 39.15. A Ring The Bell colt (Compton) and Pale Ale (Tonge) ran an easy 800 metres on the grass in 56.85, the last 600 in 41.1 s while Regal Blaze (Martin) was not doing much more than threequarteEjpace over 600 metres in 43.65. High Income (Murray) and Streets Ahead (Cole) took 55.7 s for 800 metres.
