Nureyev wants to visit homeland

“.ZPA Monterrey, Mexico Expatriate ballet dancer Rudolf Nureyev is thinking of visiting the Soviet Union for the first time since he defected 28 years ago. "Unfortunately, since the bureaucracy in this country is so huge, I expect I'll be 100 years old before I get back,” he said in an interview after arriving in Mexico for a series of performances in Mexico.

Nureyev, aged 51, said he would like to visit the Kirov Theatre, where he began his career. He said that many dancer-defec-tors eventually returned to the Soviet Union because they could not adjust to new lifestyles. Nureyev defected in 1961 while on tour with the Bolshoi ballet. He is a British citizen. Nureyev said he found what he was looking for. “I came to the West and danced the great dances,” he said.
