Former police chief in court
NZPA-AAP Sydney A former high-ranking police officer wept yesterday as 25 charges including rape spanning two decades were read out in Sydney’s Central Local Court. between 1969 and 1988. The magistrate, Arthur Riedel, remanded Blackburn for further mention on August 29 allowing him bail of sAust4oo,ooo ($576,285). The prosecutor, John Brydon, for the Department of Public Prosecutions, told the Court it would be alleged that Blackburn forced couples from their cars, sometimes at knifepoint and once with an axe, tied up the male partners and locked them in the boot of the car. Counsel for Blackburn, Clive Steirn told the Court his client categorically denied all the charges.
