Four S.I. soldiers for duty in Iran

Four South Islanders are among nine Army officers who will fly to Iran soon to replace officers seconded to the United Nations Iraq-Iran Military Observer Group. The nine officers in the U.N.1.1.M.0.G. force have served up to a year monitoring the ceasefire in the Iran-Iraq war. Among the officers who will replace them next month will be Captain Phillip Collett, of Christchurch, based at Papakura; Captain Timothy Gall, of Nelson, based at Land Force Command, Takapuna; Captain Peter King, of Christchurch, serving with the 2/1 Battalion at Burnham and Captain Ashton Brunton, of Blenheim, serving with Army General Staff, Wellington. New Zealand has an Army and Air Force contingent attached to the United Nations peacekeeping group. Army officers serve a year’s duty in the U.N.1.1.M.0.G. group, while the 21 R.N.Z.A.F. personnel in the group are each on a six months tour of duty.
