Councillor still wants hot-line

The Christchurch City councillor who wanted a local body election “hotline” still believes the idea is a good one. The plan for the “hotline” was shelved on Monday, but Cr Alex Clark said the service should be provided. The chairman of the council’s planning and finance committee, Cr John Burn, said a Government toll-free “hot-line” to Wellington would be

running on August 4, and voter questions could be directed there. Cr Clark said that line would provide information only on whether voters were on the parliamentary roll or not, and where they could get enrolment forms. “A call to the Wellington ‘freephone’, will leave electors more confused rather than less,” he said. He hoped Cr Burns would reconsider.
