Incident baffles police

The police are baffled by an incident in Cathedral Square yesterday, when a man sitting in a car reportedly pointed a pistol at the head of the female driver. The couple were arguing outside the Housing Corporation building when the man pulled what a passer-by thought was a gun from beneath a seat and aimed it at the woman, who then drove off. The incident occurred at 11.25 a.m., and was reported to the police 20 minutes later. “We only had a very brief description of the vehicle and no registration number. By the time it was reported they could have been 20km away,” a police spokesman said. The police said it appeared the man and woman knew each other. There was a baby in the car.
