Bus timetable problems to be fixed

Problems with the new bus timetable, introduced on July 10, will be dealt with, according to the Christchurch Transport Board’s general manager, Mr Max Taylor. Mr Taylor said the changes had been massive. “We can’t change things to that extent without having people complain.” Complaints have been made to

the board by the Tramway Workers’ Union that drivers are being forced to speed to make up time on the shortened runs, that people are being left behind and buses are running behind schedule on some services. Mr Taylor said the changes had been successful in that loadings Were up but in some cases this had added to the delays. "In some cases the extra pas-

sengers being carried take that much longer to board and unload that buses aren’t keeping to the rostered timetable.” Mr Taylor said all the information and complaints dealing with timetable changes were being recorded so that problem areas could be looked at. "The people that worked on the design of the changes met on

Monday morning to look at the information and they have ranked in priority the things that have to be adjusted and altered.” Where there was an absolute need something would be done on the spot, Mr Taylor said.

“We can’t go back to the original status quo without going back to the original status quo in terms of expenditures.”
