Skyhawks cleared

PA Blenheim All Air Force Skyhawk aircraft have now been cleared for the use of modified rocket launching pods after an incident at R.N.Z.A.F. Basp Woodbourne this month. A pod fell from a Skyhawk as it made a low pass over the airfield and landed in a paddock after whistling over the heads of workers in an adjacent? vineyard. Only two or three aircraft were involved in usings the modified pods to carry crews’ personal luggage,'; the information officer at R.N.Z.A.F. Base Ohakea*: said. The problem had arisen through the use of a>. shorter bolt than specified in the attachment bracket. All Skyhawks were grounded at the time of the incident and the pods removed for checking. The pods were modified to carry luggage because there is no room in the Skyhawk cockpit.
