Books for victims soon

Two pamphlets aimed at the victims ol violent crime should be available nationally within about 10 days, a Justice Department spokesman said yesterday. The nine-month delay in producing the pamphlets has been criticised

by the chairman of the Victims’ Task Force, Ms Ann Ballin.

Printing delays and problems with ambiguities in Samoan and Maori versions of the pamphlets were behind the delays. The Justice Department’s press officer, Mr

Blue Harris, said he expected the pamphlets back from the printers within “a few days” and expected they would be available within 10 days. The pamphlets outline people’s rights under the 1987 Victims of Offences Act.
