Canterbury squad named

The Canterbury netball squad which was finalised this week will be expected to perform with more assertiveness against a visiting Tasmanian side tomorrow evening, according to its coach, Leigh Gibbs. The Canterbury lineup beat Tasmania, 33-29, in a 40 minute game on Sunday, but Mrs Gibbs is hoping for a more impressive showing for its second clash. “We didn’t play at all well.

We didn’t fire, and I think we just took them too lightly,” she said. The squad has been reduced to eight of its 11 players as Annette Heffernan, Sharon Burridge and April leremia are in West Germany with the New Zealand team. Larissa Glubb has been called in to temporarily fill a vacant spot. Karen Burrows, one of the Canterbury defence players

who has been particularly promising this season injured her ankle but Mrs Gibbs said that the injury was not serious.

The finalised squad is: Anna Pilbrow, Helen Mahon, Sandy MacPherson, Liz

Kazmierczak, Margaret Bray, Sharon Burridge (Hearts); April leremia, Annette Heffernan, Karen Burrows, Chris Palmer (St Nicholas); Lee McKenzie (Riccarton).
