Fletcher freight arm sold

Challenge Freight Services, the freight forwarding subsidiary of Fletcher Challenge, has been bought by a company run by listed American transport group, Harper Robinson, of San Francisco. The purchase was made by Circle Freight Services, and Challenge Freight Services name will be changed to CFS, and continue its role as a freight forwarder in perishable goods, according to CFS’s managing director, Mr Stuart Loudon. Harper Robinson previously concentrated on dry and industrial freight, but decided to expand into air-freighting perishable goods in the Pacific Rim region, with the take-over of Challenge Freight Services representing the first move, he said. CFS had sold a 49 per cent interest in the Christchurch operation to Mr Peter Gorman, formerly manager of Mogal Corporation’s air freighting operation at Christchurch airport.

This Christchurch company would be called CFS (Christchurch).
