ARSON The partly-built new Hornby Policy Station, Tower Street, has been the target of two arson attempts. The police are urgently seeking information, which will be treated confidentially. BURGLARIES Custom Gloves, Buckleys Road, Linwood, was broken into between July 14 and 17. Property stolen included three cartons of unrefined heavyweight leather and one carton of high quality hide which is soft and used for making dress gloves. During mid-June, Telecom Corporation decommissioned the telephone lines between Motukarara and Taitapu. Since then 2620 kg of cadmium copper wire (4.5 km long) valued at $7860 has been stolen. Clothing valued at $3268 was stolen from Canterbury International, Montreal Street, on July 24. Six trucks on a Blenheim Road property were broken into on July 10. Stolen were: Seven "Shogun” badges with Samurai sword, one “GWA4S” badge, three Awa/Clarion car radio model 650 P, four Awa speakers and one Philips cassette stereo and speakers. In mid-May a “Hydes” bale buggy, coloured yellow, was stolen from State highway 72 near Methven and towed towards Coalgate. .This buggy feeds out and unrolls round hay bales and would be of value only to farmers.
