Fertility problems over
Otago correspondent Present Laughter, the Most Happy Fella stallion which went infertile when first tried at stud in New Zealand in 1986, has reportedly recovered his fertility and will stand at the Raven Lodge Stud near Edendale, Southland, in the spring. Present Laughter was bred with 11 mares last spring and of the eight tested, all have been positive, according to Raven
Lodge studmaster, Clarrie Woodward. The best performed of the prolific producer, Pammy Lobell, Present Laughter was imported from North America three years ago by Harness World Bloodstock, He tested fertile when he left the United States but was infertile when he arrived, and became the property of an insurance company. He was put back into work as a
seven-year-old last term and raced in Melbourne for a time before being transferred to the Kumeu trainers, Mike and Owen Nicholas. His best effort for them was a second behind Jay Bee’s Fella, which returned 1:58 in the Benson and Hedges Mile at Alexandra Park. This was well outside Present Laughter’s mile best in North America of 1:54. The winner of
$U5509,012, Present Laughter will join the Albatross stallion, Cadillac, at Raven Lodge, with the latter returning after a year, .in the north at Gentry (Lodge. Chfaillac is the sire of Miss Outlaw, which won a yearling parade by 9y 2 lengths at Oamaru last week. She is from the first crop of Cadillac, from the Jack Chance mare, Belbora, and is trained by Noel Creighton.
