Douglas out of hospital The former Minister of Finance, Mr Roger Douglas, was recuperating at home last evening after spending two days in Middlemore Hospital with a chest infection. Mr Douglas, who developed the infection from influenza, was taken to hospital by ambulance on Wednesday morning. A family friend said from the Douglas household that he was resting after leaving hospital last evening.—PA. Man cut from van Firemen spent 40 minutes cutting a van driver from his vehicle after a motor accident in Clarence Street, Riccarton, last evening. A section of the road was closed for about an hour after the collision involving the van and a car shortly before 7 p.m. The van driver, aged about 40, was taken by ambulance to Christchurch Hospital with serious leg injuries. His name and condition were unavailable last evening. Free dental check New Zealanders will be able to have a free dental examination during the next few days as part of Dental Health Week. Participating dentists in each region will examine teeth and gums and give advice on possible treatment, the Minister of Health, Ms Clark, said yesterday. — PA. Buses off the road Christchurch Transport Board buses will be off the road on Sunday morning as members of the Tramway Workers’ Union hold a stop-work meeting. The Sunday morning meeting is a trial initiated by the board so as not to inconvenience the travelling public. The first buses for the day will depart from the city at 12.25 p.m. Trio save woman The police say three young men risked their lives to save a woman from jumping off an Auckland bridge last evening. The trio were walking across Grafton Bridge about 7 p.m. when they saw a woman beyond a barrier fence. Sergeant David McLaughlin said the men, in their 20s, climbed over the fence and grabbed the woman as she was jumping. He said that the men held the woman, who was trying to wriggle free, until the police arrived. Last parade in Asia New Zealand staged its last hurrah in Asia yesterday when 1 Battailion Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment paraded ceremonially for the last time, in Singapore. The two-hour parade at regimental headquarters, Dieppe Barracks was inspected by the Minister of Defence, Mr Tizard. — PA. Aircraft misnamed Typographical errors in yesterday’s report of the arrival of Ansett New Zealand’s new 8Ae146 whisper jet inadvertently created two unknown types of aircraft. In the fifth paragraph 8Ae1460-300” should read 8Ae146-300 and in the seventh paragraph, 8A3146 should have appeared as BAel 46.
