Fashion modelling led to acting career

British born Amanda Pays, who stars as Theora Jones in “Max Headroom” (tonight at 10.35 om Two), began her career as a fashion model, appearing in magazines such as “Vogue,” “Cosmopolitan” and Harper’s Bazaar.” From an early age, she had been interested in acting, and was active in the drama department at her high school in Ascot, England. After graduating, she attended Hammersmith College in London, studying art and art history. In 1979, Pays joined the Askew Modelling Agency. Four years later, she enrolled in the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts in London and following one year of study, landed a co-starring role opposite George Segal in “The Cold Room.” She then appeared in the 1984 American miniseries “A.D.” and the following year she made her feature film debut in “Oxford Blues,” with Rob Lowe and Ally Sheedy. Also in 1985, she starred in the 8.8. C. production of “Mr and Mrs Edgehill” and co-starred in the American telemovie, “13 at Dinner” with Faye Dunaway and Peter Ustinov. Amanda Pays is married to the “L.A. Law” star, Corbin Bernsen, and this year, the couple had their first baby.
