‘Let’s go ski-ing’ for beginners

PA Wellington As many as 10,000 would-be skiers nationally could try the sport for just $lO during a special programme beginning this month. Let’s Go Ski-ing New Zealand has been organised by the New Zealand Ski Council to promote growth in the industry. The executive director, Mr Miles Davidson, said the programme was designed to give people their first ski experience. “It is hoped they will enjoy it so much that they will continue ski-ing,” he said. The offer included ski, boot and pole hire, a professional lesson and use of the learners’ slopes and chairlifts for a day at a chosen ski area — Whakapapa, Turoa, Mount Hutt, Cardrona, The Remarkables or Coronet Peak.

Mr Davidson said registrations at ski shops throughout New Zealand had opened on July 3 for the nine-day programme that would begin on July 29 and continue until August 6. It was too early to say how many people would register but over the nine days it was possible 10,000 learners could be accommodated.
