Wrapped papers
Sir,—When is “The Press” going to adopt a satisfactory system regarding the wrapping of newspapers in winter? Obviously the present system is inadequate, judging by the busy phone lines to’“The Press” on the morning of July 12. Could we please have the papers wrapped in a waterproof wrapper on a regular basis in winter? — Yours, etc., J. RIGG. July 12,1989. [We certainly wish to deliver “The Press” in good condition. As well as noting the Meteorological Office forecasts, our staff also obtain late-night checks with other observers before determining whether the newspaper should be wrapped as a protection against rain. They do not rely solely on. forecasts made many hours earlier. Sometimes they make an error, and all papers are wrapped when the morning turns out to be fine. On Wednesday morning the weather was misjudged and only some papers were wrapped. We ....:.
greatly regret the mistake. The company is seriously considering the correspondent’s proposal on regular wrapping, regardless of forecasts. — Editor.]
