Doctor banned for N.Z. offences
NZPA London A psychiatrist struck off the New Zealand medical list after being found guilty of sexually assaulting two of his patients has been banned from practising in Britain. Dr Kolathur Unni, aged 43, was ordered to be struck off the medical register by the General Medical Council in London after admitting indecent behaviour while he was working in New Zealand between 1985 and 1987.
The chairman of the council’s, professional conduct committee, Sir. Herbert Duffie, said Dr Unni was guilty of serious professional medical misconduct and had committed a disgraceful abuse of the trust placed in him.
Dr Unni has 28 days in which to lodge an appeal against the decision.
The council was told Dr Unni had been employed as a psychiatrist, at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Welwyn, Hertfordshire, since returning from New Zealand after being found guilty of “disgraceful conduct” t»y New Zealand medical authorities.
