Murder trial delay
PA Auckland The High Court murder trial of two men accused of the shotgun killing of the Northcote motelier, Rex Bell, may be delayed until next year. At first, it was hoped two West Auckland .men, Wuti Wellington Waa, aged 24, and William Cullen, aged 23, might go before the High Court at Auckland as early as July 31.
But, following a meeting between lawyers and Mr Justice Sinclair, that is no longer the case. Colin Nicholson Q.C., counsel for Waa, said the trial could still go ahead this year but an adjournment until 1990 was possible.
The reasons for the delay were confidential, he said.
A date for the trial is due to be set today at a High Court appearance. Mr Bell was killed by a shotgun blast when two masked raiders stormed into his family’s unit at the Northcote Motel on December 19 last year.
