Woman accuses husband on death

NZPA-AP

Concord

New Hampshire

For nearly five months, the police waited outside a rehabilitation centre room for Miriam StoltzGurney to tell them who killed her friend, shot her in the head and left her to die in the forest. Last week, she remembered and pointed the finger at her former husband.

The police arrested George Gurney, aged 52, and charged him with first-degree murder, kidnapping and attempted murder. He is accused of killing Roger Whittemore, aged 52, of Swampscott, Massachusetts, and taking his former wife prisoner on February 16. The State Attorney General, John Arnold, said Gurney, of Newburyport, Massachusetts, had been a suspect from the begining. Gurney denied the shootings and is fighting extradition from Massachusetts. New Hampshire authorities are confident that he will be in custody soon.
