Trainer disqualified
NZPA-AAP Sydney Ron Fliedner, a country trainer, received a 12-month disqualification on Monday after his pacer returned a positive swab following a race last month. Fliedner fronted a stewards’ inquiry after Emerald Cunard returned a positive swab to the drugs phenylbutazone and oxyphenbutazone after winning the ANZ Bank Pace at Trundle in New South Wales’ central western districts on June 7. Fliedner pleaded not guilty to the charge. Emerald Cunard has been subsequently disqualified as the winner of the race and stewards, have amended the placings. Traces of the banned substances were found in Emerald Cunard’s urine samples which were later confirmed by Australian’ Jockey Club laboratory tests.
