Francis Dalrae in work

Otago correspondent Francis Dalrae, the winner of four races, all at Addington, and $35,275 this season, may have been troubled by a stone bruise when his form slumped in the autumn. “We think he was feeling the effects of a stone bruise at the end of his

campaign. We kept him in work a little while after he last raced in April and first noticed it when he began pacing on the lead,” said Denis O’Connell, his Seacliff ownertrainer. The rising nine-year-old has just resumed work after a spell.

Francis Dalrae, took a new lease of life this season. He scored a shock win at Addington on New Zealand Cup day in record time of 4:13.5 for 3200 metres.

Later at the meeting he set a national record of 2:32.2 for 2000 m (mobile).
