Bowlers ahead

The New Zealand bowls team continued on its winning way in the Pacific Area Games tournament in Fiji yesterday, scoring a clean sweep over Singapore on the first full day of competition. The size of victory in all matches was comfortable, though Singapore’s Hy Chai got to within five points of lan Dickison in the men’s singles, going down 25-20. The New Zealand men’s triple of Gary Lawson, Jim Scott and Maurice Symes came out on top, 24-9, while the four of McConnell, Lawson, Scott and Symes recorded the biggest winning margin between the teams of 32-7. The New Zealand women’s triple of Marlene Castle, Adrienne Lambert and Betty Fitzell had almost as easy a time, winning 28-7, while the four of Lyn McLean, Castle, Lambert and Fitzell came through 24-13. — PA.
