Burndale set for clash

The national league soccer side, Waitakere City, may have beaten Christchurch United and Mount Wellington this season but its Chatham Cup quarter-final opponent, Burndale United, does not fear the Auckland team.. Waitakere City, a newcoiher to the national league this year, bundled Mount Wellington out of the Cup last Sunday with a 2-1 victory. Earlier this season it downed Christchurch United by the same score in a fourthround league match. Waitakere, which is coached by the new All Whites assistant coach, Keith Pritchett, is currently in sixth place in the national ■ league with . a record of six wins, two draws and four losses after 12 games.

. It will host Burndale, currently third in the southern league, on July 22 or 23 at Western Springs. The Burndale playercoach, Graeme Archer, said his. players were looking forward to a trip away. "We don’t mind playing, Waitakere away from home. They will be tough but the guys are looking forward to the trip.” The Bumdale players will probably have to pay for the trip themselves as the club had not budgeted on another good Cup run. Burndale made the quarter-finals last year, bowing out, 0-2, to the eventual winner, Waikato United. “We could cause a bit of an upset,” said Archer. “It is not beyond us to

come away with a win if we all play well and the strikers are on form.” Archer does not know a great deal about Waitakere and joked that he would need to read a team list to find out who they had. “I will give lan Marshall (United coach) a telephone call too.” ■ Christchurch United has the advantage of a home tie against its fellow national league club, Waterside, in the quarterfinals.
